If it’s some new project you are doing you will want to use a string in order to get the bricks perfectly straight. It takes some attention to detail to do this. I ended up using a tiny level to make sure each Mississippi Brick Masonry was level in both directions (as well as straight with the string) before moving on. I wasn’t as fast as the professionals, but my work is solid and it looks great!
Finally, you will also need to take into consideration the construction of the house. If the window has a slope sill you will need to leave a 1/4 inch gap between the sill and the bottom of the shutter to allow rain, snow, and ice to drain from the window. If you have a brick mold you will need to order the correct size of exterior shutters to stretch from the top to the bottom of the window opening.
Brick Home Repair Nearly any foundation without a complete waterproofing system in place will very likely leak at some point if the basement floor is underground by nearly any height. The important question is how much will it leak.
Concrete Masonry Wearing proper work clothes is important. Do not wear clothing that is binding or that will restrict your body movement. Long flowing or very loose fitting clothing is never recommended. Wear long pants that cover the legs. Keep shirt cuffs, collars and fronts buttoned and shirt tails tucked in. Always wear closed toes shoes. Make sure that clothing is free of tears or rips and that there is no piece of loose clothing that could get caught in the saw or the blade.
Cons: Stucco needs to be water tight. If water seeps under the stucco, it will separate the material from the home. Stucco is difficult to repair as the color is mixed in with the product and is hard to match should repairs be needed.
I hate drywall! Of all the things I can do, I do it least well. I tried and tried to get a contractor to show up and give me a bid for the job. Only one ever showed up, and after looking over the situation, and seeing that there were some problems to be over come to do a good job, he never showed up again. He never even gave a bid. My wife and I were so tired from all the work, and working our jobs as well, we were willing to pay double the normal rate, but none would take the job on because it wasn’t easy, it was going to require some work to accomplish.
